APRIL 24, 2025—OTTAWA— Michael Sangster, CEO of the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC), issued the following statement on federal parties’ platform commitments regarding workforce training programs:
“NACC applauds the election platform commitments from both the Liberals and Conservatives, recognizing the vital importance of workforce training programs to Canada’s economy. NACC is encouraged to see this alignment of political priorities as both major parties work to open new work opportunities and create greater flexibility for graduates who have worked to expand their skillset and contribute to critical sectors of the economy at such an important time for our country.
NACC members work to train the Canadian skilled workers who build homes, hospitals and essential infrastructure across Canada. In every region of the country, in many different fields and professions, NACC graduates are adding their skills to the Canadian workforce, filling gaps in the labour market and making our country stronger and more competitive as we face new challenges.
More than ever, with threats from across the border and tariffs impacting thousands of workers, it is critical that Canada continues to reinforce its domestic workforce. These skilled workers are essential to addressing challenges facing Canadians, such as taking action to end the housing crisis, unlocking access to quality health care, building the infrastructure that connects Canadians and strengthening our country’s cybersecurity and digital defenses. Regulated career colleges work every day to ensure Canada has the talent necessary to meet these current and future workforce demands and setting us up for long-term economic success.
NACC celebrates the platform commitments made by all major parties to support and strengthen Canada’s training programs. Investing in skills training and apprenticeship programs is essential to ensuring that Canadians have the opportunities to acquire the in-demand skills needed to succeed in today’s rapidly evolving job market, and these commitments demonstrate a constructive understanding of the critical role skilled workers play in our nation’s economic prosperity and future growth.”
