NACC Partners with TELUS Wise to Keep Members, Students and Staff Safe Online

Thursday, November 25, 2021

For over 125 years, NACC Colleges have educated the future leaders of our nation and been a crucial driver of our economy. With that role, we own a special responsibility to educate beyond the curriculum and to ensure that our students leave our colleges better prepared to enter the workforce and society. With that in mind, today we are announcing our support of the TELUS Wise  program. TELUS Wise is a free digital literacy education program that offers informative workshops and resources to help Canadians of all ages have a positive experience as digital citizens. Workshops and resources cover topics including protecting your online security, privacy, and reputation, rising above cyberbullying, and using technology responsibly.

75% of Canadians are spending 3-4 hours each day online, and 1 in 5 do not go more than 5 hours without going online. The global pandemic has only increased virtual learning, online work and personal internet usage; with that comes cyberbullying, internet scams, and the need to educate youth and adults alike.

TELUS empowers Canadians of all ages to stay safe in a digital world.

NACC wants to join TELUS Wise and their valued partners, the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, Canadian Centre for Child Protection, the Amanda Todd Legacy, CyberTip, Hockey Canada, and Media Smarts in this important journey.

“NACC is partnering with TELUS and the TELUS Wise team because it is the right thing to do to protect our students and their families,” said Michael Sangster, CEO of the National Association of Career Colleges. “We will support their online training, we will spread the word to our students and our communities, and over time we hope our instructors and students become volunteer ambassadors of the TELUS Wise program.”

“As a leading provider of smartphones and internet services, we are dedicated to empowering Canadians to stay safe in a digital world,” said Patrick Barron, VP of Corporate Citizenship at TELUS. “We are proud to collaborate with the National Association of Career Colleges to help keep their member colleges, students and staff safe online.”
