Supporting Student Accommodations and Accessibility

Thursday, April 23, 2026

This session provides faculty and staff with practical guidance for supporting student accommodations and creating more accessible learning environments. Participants will explore the purpose of accommodations, key legal and ethical responsibilities, and the important distinction between accommodations (how a student learns) and academic modifications (what a student learns).

The session will also address how to respond appropriately to accommodation requests, implement approved supports consistently and equitably, and protect student confidentiality throughout the process.

Through real-world examples and interactive discussion, participants will strengthen their ability to view accessibility as proactive design and better understand common accommodation needs that help reduce barriers in classroom and training settings. Emphasis will be placed on respectful communication, equity, collaboration with student services and accessibility staff, and consistent, student-centred practice.
