Yani Gabriel’s journey to becoming a Personal Support Worker (PSW) is driven by passion and shaped by his education at a regulated career college. He views his education as a harmonious blend of hands-on training and patient-centered care lessons. During his time at the Atlantic College of Applied Health Sciences, Yani learned essential skills, such as assisting with daily activities while preserving client dignity—a cornerstone of his career. 

Yani chose the Atlantic College of Applied Health Sciences for its specialized hands-on training, which promised a swift transition into the workforce with industry-recognized credentials. His research revealed that regulated career colleges maintain high standards, and this institution boasted a strong local reputation. Most importantly, the program aligned with his healthcare passion, offering a comprehensive curriculum focused on practical skills and real-world applications. 

Reflecting on his educational experience, Yani is grateful to his supportive instructors, who infused industry knowledge into their teaching, making learning both engaging and relevant. He highlights the program’s balance between theoretical learning and hands-on training, which equipped him with the tools and techniques he now employs in the healthcare field. 

Since graduating, Yani has seamlessly transitioned into full-time work. The strong reputation and professional network of his college, coupled with the comprehensive training he received, led to a job offer at Enhanced Living Oromocto Home, where he completed his practicum as part of the PSW program. 

Yani is thriving in his chosen field, feeling both passionate and fulfilled by his career choice. He fondly recalls a particularly proud moment when he helped a patient regain the ability to walk. Initially, the patient was fearful and anxious about walking post-surgery, hindering their rehabilitation. Through patience, compassion, and the patient-care skills acquired during his program, Yani helped rebuild the patient’s dignity over several months. Starting with small steps and providing constant encouragement, he introduced exercises that gradually restored the patient’s confidence, strength, and independence. Witnessing the patient’s joy and pride in regaining mobility reaffirmed to Yani that he had chosen the right career path.
