About our Topic: “Universal Design for Learning in Online Education”
This workshop will focus on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), an educational framework that helps create learning environments accessible to all students. It will present the key principles of UDL and strategies for applying them to the online classroom setting. Through activities and examples, participants will learn how to assess classroom materials and activities to ensure they are meeting the needs of a diverse student population. The participants will also discuss the importance of UDL for fostering equity and inclusion in education. This workshop is designed to help instructors create online learning environments that are equitable and accessible for all students.
Meet our Speaker
Dr. Aigerim Shilibekova
Dr. Aigerim Shilibekova is an associate professor in the MBA program and the former founding director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University Canada West (UCW) in Vancouver, BC. Her portfolio includes innovative and award-winning programs in building mindset and skillset for learning online. She is pursuing her second Ph.D. in Educational Technology and Learning Design at Simon Fraser University (SFU), where her research explores inclusive design for online learning. Dr. Shilibekova also served as the President of the Canadian Association of Instructional Designers for 2021-2022.
