What Works: Career-building strategies for people from diverse groups – A Counsellor Resource

Provides businesses with the tools and resources they need to better recruit, retain and promote skilled immigrants. The site also profiles good examples and innovative practices of employers across the country. The site can be of use to member colleges in their outreach to employers.

Preceptor Education Program for Health Professionals and Students

Preceptors (clinical instructors) and students, take advantage of this free on-line program as you prepare for clinical placements.  Once you complete the short registration process and instantly receive your login information, you can access the PEP program anytime, anywhere.  Each module takes about 30 minutes to complete and is full of quick tips and downloadable learning activities and tools.  It is easy to navigate, colourful, fun to use, and many of the modules are designed so that preceptors and students can work through them together.  A certificate can be printed at the end of the module to record the education completed.

Promising Practices: Connecting Educated Professionals with Sector-Appropriate Employment (April 2012)

Written for the GTA, but transferable to other regions, the intent of this research project was to identify promising practices and lessons learned in meeting the needs of IEPs to attain employment that matches their skills, experience and professional credentials.

Specific objectives were:

  • To better understand what practices are working well in terms of Toronto employment services and their staff in providing sector specific bridging programs that meet the needs of IEPs;
  • To identify what skill set is most appropriate for front-line workers in employment services in meeting the needs of IEPs;
  • To understand in what manner sector specific bridging programs might provide additional support to highly skilled IEPs who want to find work in Canada.

 

This project is funded by the Government of Canada’s Foreign Credential Recognition Program.
