OTTAWA – March 29th, 2012 – At a time when governments are asked to do more with less, the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) believes that the Conservative government found the right balance in its 2012 Federal Budget.
 
The government has made a strong commitment to help people retrain to find jobs or obtain more meaningful employment, support students in general and help small and medium-sized businesses through a variety of measures, while still protecting future generations by reducing the deficit.
 
“With this Budget, the Conservative government has announced that it will continue to support Canadians while still supporting people who need help.  It gives the right tools to people wanting to retrain,” said NACC Chief Executive Officer Serge Buy after reviewing the budget.
 
NACC looks forward to working with the federal government in developing even more measures that will help our economy and the unemployed, such as changing the Canada Student Grant Program in order for it to apply to students registered in compressed programs with a length of less than 60 weeks and recognizing the role played by career colleges in helping newcomers use their foreign credentials effectively.
 
Mr. Buy added, “This Budget is a decisive step in the right direction, with the government helping those who really need help.”
