On March 1st the Board of Directors of the National Association of Career Colleges met in Ottawa with senior representatives of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to discuss international student visa and work permit programs.

NACC is lobbying to change the Canada Student Grants Program to allow more students registered in various programs at career colleges to benefit from such grants. The Board first met with a senior official from the Office of the Minister responsible for HRSDC, followed by a meeting with a senior official in the Prime Minister’s Office. The meetings were very positive. We hope to have some progress on this issue in the near future!

Also during their visit, NACC organized a reception on Parliament Hill where the Speaker of the House of Commons presented the first annual NACC Student Award to two very deserving students – Janet Igisetsa and Cory Pagé. Members of Parliament also attended the reception.
